first weeks

Here are a few pictures from Sonja's first two weeks, in the hospital and at home. Sonja was born at a hospital in Greensboro at 11.27 PM on October 25. She weighed 6 lbs 13 oz and was 21 in long. She was in the bottom percentile for weight and the top for height! She may grow up to be taller than her parents! She was about a week and a half early, and her labor was induced because my water broke. As with many induced labors, she was eventually delivered surgically by C section.

However, Sonja came out awake and kicking fiercely. Her head was a bit moulded from the long labor, but has since evened out. I had a very quick recovery and didn't have any post- surgery pain at all -- nothing to "manage." I had excellent care, particularly from the labor nurses who were full of compassion and good sense.

We were so excited to bring Sonja home and enjoy our time together. We could not love her more. Thanks to all the friends and family who sent good wishes -- we have been enveloped by warmth since Sonja was born!
